About

Built by Ranchers

Ori Cattle was born from frustration with expensive, complicated systems that didn't work.
We set out to build something different.

The Ori Cattle Story

In the bitter cold of a Saskatchewan winter night, watching over a calving cow, our founder realized there had to be a better way. Traditional ear tags couldn't tell you when a cow was about to calve. None of the available solutions were built for real ranch conditions—so we decided to build the system we wished existed.

We partnered with Ori Technologies, a leader in emotional AI and behavioral analysis, to bring enterprise-grade machine learning to livestock management. The result is a tag that's rugged enough for Saskatchewan winters and smart enough to predict calving 48 hours in advance.

Today, Ori Cattle is helping ranchers across North America reduce calf mortality, improve breeding success, and spend less time worrying.
We're still a small team based in Saskatchewan, still run by people who
check their own cattle every morning.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about Ori Cattle tracking system.

General Questions

How does calving detection work?

Our calving detection uses a combination of advanced sensors including accelerometers, stomach tension monitors, and temperature sensors. The AI analyzes movement patterns, behavioral changes, and physical indicators to predict calving events 24-48 hours in advance with 95% accuracy. You receive instant alerts via mobile app, SMS, and email.

Does the tag need cellular service?

Currently, yes. The tags use cellular networks (LTE-M/NB-IoT) for data transmission. However, our future mesh networking upgrade will allow tags to communicate with each other, extending coverage to areas without cellular service. Starlink integration is also planned for remote ranches.

How accurate is the GPS tracking?

Our GPS system provides sub-meter accuracy in optimal conditions, typically within 1-3 meters. The system uses multi-constellation GNSS (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo) for maximum reliability even in challenging terrain like forests or canyons.

Is the tag reusable?

Yes! Ori Tags are fully reusable and designed to last for many years. Simply transfer the tag to a new animal when needed. The rugged construction withstands harsh ranch conditions, and the swappable battery means you never need to replace the entire unit.

Do I need a gateway?

In many pasture environments, yes. Ori uses LoRaWAN + mesh, and a gateway provides the “exit point” for alerts and reporting. We confirm requirements during onboarding and provide options.

Are there any subscription fees?

No subscriptions on hardware - you own your tags and data outright. A simple Network & Monitoring Plan keeps your system connected, supported, and continuously improved.
